Is your emotional resilience supported by an acceptance of discomfort?

Learning to accept discomfort is a vital step in the development of emotional resilience.
This is not to say that we want or welcome discomfort yet that we are willing to accept it’s presence and transition through it.
Once we have acknowledged our emotional state we can then redirect our focus from our thoughts to our symptoms. Notice the energy of the discomfort and where it sits. Breathe through the discomfort. Examine it as if you were a scientist. Soon you should feel your emotional state easing and notice that you are in control.
In neuroscience, this is known as a top-down approach. It takes practice, patience and persistence. Learning to manage your mental health is as much of a lifestyle change as improving your fitness or changing your diet.
